This polished brass shower curtain rod is everything they promised and more. It is a permanent mount but not hard to install. This is not one of those cheap, brass colored rods. This is genuine polished brass and incredibly strong.This is a heavy guage, genuine polished brass rod. You will not have to worry about it bending. I was expecting a 60" rod but received a 72" one instead, but it was easy to cut to desired length with a band saw. Be sure to smooth the freshly cut end of the rod with a file so you don't get metal slivers in your hand while you are working with it. This goes for any cut metal.
The rod is actually two pieces coupled with an inner sleeve which gives it great strength. You will not have any problems in sliding the hooks because the fitted ends are the exact same diameter and nicely matched which creates a nearly seamless appearance. If you polish it with wax, you can keep it beautiful and protected from corrosion and scratches. I recommend you polish it immediately whether you use paste wax or pledge because the oils and acids from your skin and hands will etch into polished brass and most other metals, damaging the polished surface. This is a common problem we see in the telcom and electronics industry. Fingerprints etched into silver, tin, copper, zinc and brass. We use soft, white cotton gloves when handling these types of metals.
You will not see the etching right away, but once you do, it will be too late... so please wax your polished brass right away so this does not occur. Keeping your hands washed while working with polished metals helps but does not stop the process.
It is a great improvement over the pressure fit, spring loaded rods where the hooks get constantly caught because the two sides are different diameters. This brass rod is the same diameter and the hooks slide from end to end with ease.
It may be expensive, but worth every cent. None of the home improvement centers carry anything close to the quality of this shower curtain rod. You won't regret buying this one as long as you know how to properly mount a permanent rod and have the cutting tools to cut the rod to fit your shower opening.
I love it and it goes great with my Polished brass and chrome fixtures. Be sure to buy either a good quality, genuine polished chrome or polished brass hooks for your curtain. If you use some other type of metal, it can interact with the Brass and cause corrosion. Many metals do not interact well with others such as copper and aluminum, etc. Even steel or nickel are not compatible with some metals. Aluminum is self oxidizing and is seldom compatible with any other metal....
So it you plan to buy this quality polished brass rod, please be sure to buy high quality, genuine polished brass or polished chrome hooks to use with it.
